Importance of Homecare
“A person is not healthy without good oral hygiene.”
– C. Everett Koop, M.D., Former U.S. Surgeon General
Good oral health is crucial for good overall health.
- Homecare is the success of a patient to follow a routine oral health regimen at home between office visits.
- About 80 percent of U.S. adults have some form of periodontal disease.6
- Increasing evidence suggests that periodontal disease may be linked to various diseases.1, 7- 27
When patients brush at home with Rotadent® Plus, they will improve their oral health. The technology behind Rotadent® Plus has been proven to help achieve improved homecare using the same design and performance criteria as the original Rotadent®. This consistent technical design includes the angled brush head design, 360 degree rotating brush head, brush filament fiber material and the three unique brush-head shapes (hollow, short and long).
A 10-year retrospective study demonstrated that Rotadent® helped increase patient compliance and oral hygiene when compared to manual techniques.4 The study reported that 51 percent of the manual toothbrush group maintained six month recare appointments while 92 percent of the Rotadent® group remained compliant.4 In addition, the study results showed that patients using the Rotadent® rotary toothbrush who did return for recare appointments exhibited 67 percent good to very good oral hygiene levels compared to 25 percent for the manual group.4
Other studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Rotadent® Plus:
- Sweeps away plaque from hard-to-reach dental surfaces4, 28
- Safely cleans implant surfaces and braces2, 3, 29
- Cleans as or more effectively than manual brushing and flossing or sonic powered toothbrushes3, 30
